Asking Simple Questions
Form basic questions like "What is this?", "Where is...?", "How much?".

Being able to ask basic questions is key to interacting and learning more. This lesson covers fundamental Bulgarian question words and structures.
Common Question Words (Interrogative Pronouns/Adverbs)
- Какво? (Kak-VO?) (kahk-VOH): What?
- Кой? (Koy?) (koy): Who? (masculine singular)
- Коя? (Ko-YA?) (koh-YAH): Who? (feminine singular) / Which? (feminine singular)
- Кое? (Ko-E?) (koh-EH): Which? (neuter singular)
- Кои? (Ko-I?) (koh-EE): Who? (plural) / Which? (plural)
- Къде? (Ka-DE?) (kuh-DEH): Where?
- Кога? (Ko-GA?) (koh-GAH): When?
- Как? (Kak?) (kahk): How?
- Защо? (Za-SHTO?) (zah-SHTOH): Why?
- Колко? (KOL-ko?) (KOL-ko): How much? / How many?
Forming Yes/No Questions with "ли"
Grammar Tip
To turn a statement into a yes/no question, you often add the particle "ли" (li) after the verb or the word being questioned. Example: "Ти си добре." (You are fine.) becomes "Ти добре ли си?" (Are you fine?). Intonation also rises at the end.

- Memorize the basic question words like "Какво", "Къде", "Колко".
- The particle "ли" is used to form many yes/no questions.
- Rising intonation at the end of a sentence can also indicate a question.
