Asking "What is your name?"
- Как се казваш? (Kak se KAZ-vash?) (kahk seh KAHZ-vash): What is your name? (informal)
- Как се казвате? (Kak se KAZ-va-te?) (kahk seh KAHZ-vah-teh): What is your name? (formal/plural)
Saying your name
- Казвам се... (KAZ-vam se...) (KAHZ-vahm seh): My name is...
- Аз съм... (Az sam...) (ahz sum): I am...
Nice to meet you
- Приятно ми е да се запознаем (Pri-YAT-no mi e da se za-poz-NA-em) (pree-YAHT-noh mee eh dah seh zah-pohz-NAH-em): Nice to meet you
- И на мен ми е приятно (I na men mi e pri-YAT-no) (ee nah men mee eh pree-YAHT-noh): Nice to meet you too
Asking & Saying Where You're From
- Откъде си? (Ot-ka-DE si?) (ot-kuh-DEH see): Where are you from? (informal)
- Откъде сте? (Ot-ka-DE ste?) (ot-kuh-DEH steh): Where are you from? (formal/plural)
- Аз съм от... (Az sam ot...) (ahz sum ot): I am from...

Мария: Здравей! Как се казваш? - Maria: Hello! What is your name?
Иван: Здравей! Казвам се Иван. А ти? - Ivan: Hello! My name is Ivan. And you?
Мария: Казвам се Мария. Приятно ми е да се запознаем! - Maria: My name is Maria. Nice to meet you!
Иван: И на мен ми е приятно. Откъде си, Мария? - Ivan: Nice to meet you too. Where are you from, Maria?
Мария: Аз съм от Англия. А ти? - Maria: I am from England. And you?
Иван: Аз съм от България. - Ivan: I am from Bulgaria.
- Distinguish between formal ("-те" ending) and informal address.
- "Казвам се..." is the standard way to say your name.
- "Откъде си/сте?" asks "Where are you from?". Respond with "Аз съм от [place]".
